CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) works on the understanding that, if we are able to both notice and then manage our thoughts and behaviours, we will change our mood. A very simplistic explanation of a very effective therapy, that is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence ( NICE guidelines).
During therapy, we will work collaboratively, taking into account what has happened in the past but with the focus mainly on the ‘here and now’ and moving forward, differently. I will work with you to explore your thought patterns, symptoms, and behaviours, helping to identify the key issues and set clear goals for treatment.
I have a Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) approach to treatment, as I understand that it can be very hard to come and share your most difficult thoughts and feelings at a time when you are feeling vulnerable. I can also incorporate an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) approach where needed, which is a mindfulness-based therapy that encourages acceptance of difficult emotions and thoughts. It helps individuals clarify their core values and commit to actions aligned with those values, fostering psychological flexibility and greater emotional well-being.

CBT / ACT / Mindfulness / CFT is a highly effective approach for treating such conditions as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, Panic, Phobias, General Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety and more, and it is also very effective for neurodiverse individuals, including those with ADHD and Autism (ASD)

I also offer EMDR therapy, a powerful approach that helps you process traumatic memories, reduce emotional distress, and overcome anxiety, PTSD, or past experiences holding you back. By targeting the root causes of your struggles, EMDR supports lasting healing and emotional balance in a safe, structured, and compassionate therapeutic environment.

My Portsmouth CBT / EMDR therapy practise has two therapy rooms in convenient locations and I also offer some online sessions.
